Greening our Synagogue
We come to our synagogue to create community, pray, study, celebrate, mourn, heal ourselves, heal the world, connect with Israel and with Jews around the world, observe holidays, and much more. Within that larger context, “the environment” may seem like one small piece of one piece. But in fact, ecological concern is not something we can opt out of. Minimizing our environmental footprint is a communal, a Jewish, a civic, and a theological imperative. As Martin Buber wrote, “real relationship to God cannot be achieved on earth if real relationships to the world and to [hu]mankind are lacking. Both love of the Creator and love of that which [God] has created are finally one and the same.” And a popular new saying puts it succinctly: “no planet, no Torah.”

Tzedakah Box
As a group, the Social Justice Committee researches local charitable groups, and recommends which ones will receive money from the tzedakah box in the lobby and other tzedakah donations from the Temple. Click on the above title for current benificiaries of Tzedakah Box donations.

Food Drives
At High Holy Days we organize a Food Drive in concert with all the Reform congregations in the country. Our on-going goal is to collect almost a ton of food for the needy. We also sponsor food drives during the year; for more information on the Jewish response to hunger, click on the above title.
